Course Overview
Abacus Level 1 is an intermediate-level course designed to build upon the foundational skills developed in the introductory level. In this course, students will continue to enhance their mental calculation abilities using the abacus tool. They will learn more advanced techniques for addition and subtraction, enabling them to perform complex calculations with speed and accuracy.
Course Objectives
1. Review of Level 0 Concepts:
– Recap of the abacus structure and basic operations covered in the introductory level.
– Reinforcement of basic addition and subtraction skills.
2. Advanced Addition Techniques:
– Multi-digit addition with carrying (regrouping) using the abacus.
– Addition of numbers with different numbers of digits.
3. Advanced Subtraction Techniques:
– Multi-digit subtraction with borrowing using the abacus.
– Subtraction of numbers with different numbers of digits.
4. Speed and Accuracy:
– Practice exercises to improve speed and accuracy in abacus calculations.
5. Problem Solving:
– Solving word problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using the abacus techniques learned.
6. Mental Visualization:
– Further development of mental visualization skills to perform calculations without using the physical abacus.
Course Structure
– The course is usually conducted through a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises.
– Students will have access to actual abacus tools to practice and apply the techniques learned.
– Regular assessments and quizzes may be conducted to gauge students’ progress and understanding.
– Emphasis will be placed on fostering a strong foundation in mental math and the ability to use the abacus as a complementary tool for quick and accurate calculations.
By the end of the Abacus Level 1 course, students should have a solid grasp of addition and subtraction, techniques using the abacus. They will be well-equipped to handle more complex calculations and confidently perform mental math operations in various real-life situations.
